On Dickerson Bay

Dickerson Bay is an estuarine bay on Apalachee Bay, on the Gulf coast of Wakulla County, Florida. The community of Panacea lines its west shore with homes, parks and businesses. The bay lies within the Goose Creek–Dickerson Bay sub-basin of the St. Marks River and Apalachee Bay watershed. The Northwest Florida Water Management District describes this sub-basin as covering more than 59,000 acres, with tidal marshes, oyster reefs, tidal creeks and seagrass beds of manatee grass, shoal grass and turtle grass. The state lists Dickerson Bay as impaired for fecal coliform bacteria and classifies it as Prohibited for oyster harvesting. Uplands around the bay are part of the state's Dickerson Bay/Bald Point land acquisition project. The state says the bay provides foraging habitat for juvenile Kemp's ridley sea turtles.
