On Trout Lake

Trout Lake is a natural lake in Itasca County, Minnesota. It lies inside the city limits of Coleraine, and the city sits on its north shore. The Minnesota Department of Natural Resources (DNR) describes it as an ice-block lake with a long, narrow basin about 4.5 miles in length. It covers 1,890 acres, has 13.5 miles of shoreline and reaches a maximum depth of 135 feet. About 23 percent of the basin is less than 15 feet deep. Trout Creek flows in on the northeast side, and the lake drains from its southeast end into the Swan River, which runs about 25 miles south to the Mississippi River. The lake is part of the Mississippi River–Grand Rapids watershed. The Trout Lake Eagle Wildlife Management Area borders its southeast section. More about Trout Lake.
