On Sudbury River

The Sudbury River is a 32.7-mile tributary of the Concord River in eastern Massachusetts. It rises in Cedar Swamp in Westborough and flows northeast through Hopkinton, Southborough, Ashland, Framingham, Wayland, Sudbury, Lincoln and Concord. At Egg Rock in Concord it joins the Assabet River to form the Concord River, which flows on to the Merrimack River at Lowell. The river drains 162 square miles. Seven dams stand on its main stem, all upstream of the Wild and Scenic segment. In 1999 Congress added 16.6 miles of the river to the National Wild and Scenic Rivers System: a 14.9-mile Scenic segment from the Danforth Street Bridge in Framingham to the Route 2 bridge in Concord, and a 1.7-mile Recreational segment from there to Egg Rock. Below Wayland the river passes through Great Meadows National Wildlife Refuge in Sudbury. More about Sudbury River.
