On Big Birch Lake

Big Birch Lake is a natural lake in Todd and Stearns counties in central Minnesota, near Grey Eagle and St. Rosa. Its area is usually given as 2,108 acres. The Sauk River Watershed District, using Minnesota DNR data, lists it at 2,106.55 acres, with a maximum depth of 81 feet, a mean depth of 28 feet and 15.25 miles of shoreline. The lake lies about two miles south of Grey Eagle. Glaciers formed it about 35,000 years ago. The DNR controls its water level with a dam on the short creek between Big Birch and Little Birch lakes. Birch Lakes State Forest, created by the Minnesota Legislature in 1963, is on the west side of the lake. More about Big Birch Lake.
