On Saddle Creek Park

Saddle Creek Park is not a river. It is a Polk County park built on 740 acres of former phosphate-mining land east of Lakeland, off U.S. Route 92. Its waters are a series of phosphate pits that include three main lakes and many smaller abandoned pits, with a maximum depth of about 30 feet. The park lies between Winter Haven and Lakeland. In 1961 American Cyanamid donated the 740-acre tract to Polk County. Within five years trails, sand beaches, picnic shelters and a canoe rental facility had been added. Polk County describes the park as 750 acres, much of it water, and as one of the largest parks in Central Florida. More about Saddle Creek Park.
