On Mud Lake

Mud Lake is a lake on the Leech Lake River west of Deer River in north-central Minnesota. The Leech Lake River runs about 50 miles east from Leech Lake through Cass County and serves as a headwaters tributary of the Mississippi River. It is bordered by the Leech Lake Indian Reservation and the Chippewa National Forest. The U.S. Geological Survey runs a monitoring station on the river below the Mud Lake outlet near Ball Club, in Cass County. The lake is part of the Mud-Goose Wildlife Management Area, which covers 17,000 acres of forest, marsh and lakes and is open to hunting and trapping. More about Mud Lake.
