On Messalonskee Lake

Messalonskee Lake, also called Snow Pond, is a lake in the Belgrade Lakes region of Maine. It is bordered by the towns of Oakland, Sidney and Belgrade in Kennebec County. The Maine Department of Inland Fisheries and Wildlife gives its area as 3,510 acres and its maximum depth as 113 feet. Lakes of Maine lists a mean depth of 33 feet and a 30-mile perimeter. The lake is a long, narrow natural basin shaped by glacial scouring, and a dam built in Oakland in 1905 made it larger. Belgrade Stream is its main inlet. It is the second-largest lake in the Belgrade Chain of Lakes and drains through Messalonskee Stream to the Kennebec River at Waterville. More about Messalonskee Lake.
