On Lake Santa Fe

Lake Santa Fe is a natural lake of about 5,850 acres in northeastern Alachua County, Florida. It is fed by seepage from the aquifer. The lake lies entirely within Alachua County, and Bradford, Clay and Putnam counties border it to the east and south. It has a large southern arm and a smaller northern basin called Little Lake Santa Fe, joined by a narrows known as "the pass." According to the Santa Fe Lake Dwellers Association, the main lake is about 30 feet deep and Little Lake Santa Fe about 22 feet. Together with the Santa Fe Swamp to the north, the lake forms the headwaters of the Santa Fe River, which flows into the Suwannee River. The communities of Melrose and Earleton are on its shores. The state of Florida has designated it an Outstanding Florida Water. More about Lake Santa Fe.
