On Long Lake

Long Lake is a drainage lake in Hubbard County, Minnesota. It lies a few miles east of Park Rapids, and the community of Hubbard sits near its south end. It is long and narrow, covers 1,926 acres and has a maximum depth of 129 feet. Two minor inlets flow in from Peysenske Lake to the east and Sweitzer Lake to the north. The outlet at the south end drains to the Fishhook River, which feeds the Shell River and then the Crow Wing River in the Upper Mississippi basin. The lake once had five main parts linked by a narrow neck of water. In 1885 Joseph Delaney built a mill dam south of the southern outlet, which gave the lake its present shape. More about Long Lake.
