On Little Rock Lake

Little Rock Lake is a reservoir in western Benton County, Minnesota, and the county's largest lake. Its north end lies about 1.5 miles east of the city of Rice. From there it extends 3.25 miles south and is about 1 mile wide, then narrows to pass under U.S. Highway 10. South of the highway, the Harris Channel carries the water west to the Mississippi River. The lake was formed in 1911 when the Watab Pulp and Paper Company finished the Sartell Dam on the Mississippi, about 5 miles downriver. The Little Rock Lake Association gives the surface area as 1,450 acres, the maximum depth as 23 feet and the average depth as 8 feet. About 96 percent of the lake is 15 feet deep or less. Three creeks feed it. More about Little Rock Lake.
