On Long Lake
Long Lake is a shallow lake in Kandiyohi County, Minnesota, about five miles north of Willmar (Minnesota DNR lake ID 34-0192). It covers about 1,568 acres. The maximum depth is about 16 feet and the average depth is 9.5 feet, and roughly 1,489 acres of the lake are less than 15 feet deep. Long Lake and neighboring Ringo Lake formed from ice blocks left in till deposits of the Des Moines Lobe, the most recent glacial lobe. Ringo Lake lies to the northeast and drains through a wetland into Long Lake, which is the lake's only inlet. Long Lake outlets at its southwest corner toward Hawk Creek, which flows on to the Minnesota River. In 2002 the lake was listed as impaired for excess nutrients. More about Long Lake.
