On Lake Hanska
Lake Hanska is a large, shallow lake in Brown County, Minnesota, near the city of Hanska. It covers about 1,795 acres and has 21 miles of shoreline. The maximum depth is 16 feet and the average depth is about 5 feet. Dredged sections lie at the southeast and northwest ends, but much of the middle of the lake is closer to 6 feet deep. The Dakota called the lake "minne hanska," meaning "long water." Its basin was formed 11,000 to 15,000 years ago by the Wisconsin glacier. More about Lake Hanska.
