On Gull Lake

Gull Lake is a lake of about 9,947 acres in Cass and Crow Wing counties in north-central Minnesota. It is the largest lake within the city limits of East Gull Lake and one of the largest lakes in the Brainerd–Baxter area. The lake is 15.3 miles long and 3.3 miles wide. Its maximum depth is 80 feet and its median depth is 30 feet, and nearly 30 percent of the lake is 15 feet deep or less. Gull Dam, which began operating in 1912 about half a mile down the Gull River from the lake's outlet, raised the lake about five feet. It was the last of the Mississippi Headwaters reservoir dams to be built. The lake drains through the Gull River and is part of the Crow Wing watershed. It is the largest member of, and gives its name to, the Gull Lake Chain, a group of connected lakes in Cass and Crow Wing counties. More about Gull Lake.
