On Jordan River

The Jordan River is a 24.9-mile stream in the northwestern Lower Peninsula of Michigan, flowing through Antrim and Charlevoix counties. It is the largest tributary of Lake Charlevoix. Its headwaters rise from springs in the upper Jordan River Valley northeast of Mancelona. From there the river winds southwest and west through Warner, Star and Chestonia townships, then turns north and empties into the South Arm of Lake Charlevoix at East Jordan. It drains a basin of about 100,000 acres. Near the mouth the river slows and spreads into hundreds of acres of marsh and wetland known as the Jordan River Spreads. In 1972 the Jordan became the first river designated under Michigan's Natural Rivers Program. More about Jordan River.
