On Chippewa River
The Chippewa River is a 153-mile tributary of the Minnesota River in western Minnesota. Through the Minnesota River it is part of the Mississippi River watershed. It flows out of Stowe Lake in Douglas County, northwest of Brandon, and runs west into Grant County. From there it turns south through Pope, Stevens, Swift and Chippewa counties, passing Hoffman, Cyrus and Benson before it meets the Minnesota River at Montevideo. Parts of its middle course in Pope and Swift counties have been straightened and channelized. At Watson its average flow is 236 cubic feet per second. Its watershed covers about 2,084 square miles (1,333,541 acres), and most of that land is farmed. More about Chippewa River.
