On Bowstring Lake
Bowstring Lake is a 9,220-acre lake in north-central Itasca County, Minnesota, in the Bigfork River watershed. It lies about 12 miles north of Deer River. According to a Minnesota Lake Assessment Program report, the lake reaches a maximum depth of 32 feet, has 4,736 littoral acres and drains a watershed of 201.76 square miles. A navigable channel connects it to Sand Lake. The report found that the lake's water quality was worse than models predicted for lakes of similar size and depth: measured summer total phosphorus was 44 µg/L, against a predicted 24 µg/L. The lake sits within the Chippewa National Forest, and the surrounding unorganized territory of Itasca County is also named Bowstring Lake. More about Bowstring Lake.
