On L-40

L-40 is a canal in Palm Beach County, Florida. It belongs to the 58-mile perimeter canal of the Arthur R. Marshall Loxahatchee National Wildlife Refuge and runs beside the L-40 section of the refuge's perimeter levee. The refuge covers 145,188 acres of the northern Everglades west of Boynton Beach and is also known as Water Conservation Area 1 (WCA-1). It was established in 1951. The state owns WCA-1, and the refuge is managed under a license agreement between the South Florida Water Management District and the U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service. Water levels are controlled by pumps, canals, water control structures and levees built by the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers. More about L-40.
